Grandma Ho's Steamed Chicken
Nope, not my grandma, but hey, what a coincidence! ;p
Okay, I bought two chicken drumsticks few days back and I happened to chance upon this recipe in the "Family" magazine (May issue, page 49); so I gave it a try! :D
I am really pleased with the end results! This dish, is very easy and yet tasty! You guys should try it too!
Here's the recipe as copied from the magazine:
Grandma Ho's Steamed Chicken (Serves 6)
4 chicken drumsticks (I used 2 only)
3 potatoes - sliced thickly (I used half a potato only)
1 carrot - sliced into chunks (I used half a carrot only)
1 can of button mushrooms (I did not use this as I don't have any in my kitchen)
11/2 bowls of water (For steaming)
Salt, pepper and chinese ^hua-tiao-jiu to taste
*Arrange all the ingredients on a metal plate. *Add a little salt and pepper and chinese ^hua-tiao-jiu (sprinkle on top of the chicken pieces)*Add the water in a steamer, cover and let it boil over high fire. (I have no proper steamer and thus, used my usual saucepan instead - metal plate on a stand in water) When the water starts to boil, switch to low fire and let it cook for another 20 minutes. Serve hot with rice!
Tip: The carrots and potatoes already lend natural sweetness to the dish so there's no need for any form of marinade. But for a more flavourful stock, keep some skin on the drumsticks instead of de-skinning everything - that's what I did! ;D
(*I did a little rephrasing... ^Added on my own accord!)
