Long Beach Seafood Restaurant
Last Friday, James was craving for seafood (crabs) and he decided that we eat out for dinner. He claimed that a Long Beach pamphlet was distracting him at work and he was practically drooling over the pictures!
We went to the branch at East Coast Parkway, which is beside the Singapore Tennis Centre. We reached like 7pm, and there wasn't much of a crowd, got a table easily (the restaurant is big) and our food was served promptly.
Here's what we had!
From top, left & right: Bamboo clams and country style tofu. The tofu, is really nice! Our little one loved it too!
Top, left & right: Chilli crabs and fried mantou. Rather nice and spicy on first bite but the crab was only "half-fresh". : ( We could taste it because the flesh is different, one portion of it was nice and fit, whilst the other portion, the flesh was softer, and rather... loose? I don't know how to describe it but we could tell it is not right. Still can be eaten though and James said that they had probably used half a live crab, and the other half of a dead crab for the dish. : (
How sad, but this is not new to us, we encountered it at Newton Circus Food Centre too. BBQ stingray, one piece was nice and fresh whilst the other, not as good. This happens when you eat at stalls that you are patronizing for the first time and when they don't know you well. Well, our regular stall of BBQ seafood at Newton has shifted, and it'd be sometime before we get to eat totally fresh BBQ stingray again.
Last, left & right: fried ee-fu noodles and thai style steamed fish. The sweet and sour sauce for the fish was seperated because we had planned for Lia to eat it with us. James complained that there were too much bones in the fish but I liked it, the sauce is nice and tangy! I dipped the ladies fingers and tomatoes into the sauce and it was like having Thai fondue! Hah!
We ordered a set meal and dessert (and tea, towels, and tidbits) came free. And funny. I thought it was some orr-nee but no, it wasn't, just some mysterious coconut gravy with yellow pieces swimming it it. Felt like boh-boh-char-char too, but I did not venture further to determine it. James cringed his nose and pushed it away without tasting it. He said it looked too unappetizing, that he did not bother to try it at all.
We spent like S$ 105.00 in all after the 10% VIP discount, discount card came free with the set meal too, overall verdict, okay, nice. Service is good and they changed our plates as soon it got laden with food remains. : ) But if we were to ask the man if he would go back there again, and I think he would say no.
