Gastric flu
Lia had her first bout of gastric flu a day after her birthday.
We were all asleep when I heard her cough and gag. I turned to her side and saw her sitting up and vomiting. I gasped and that woke James up and he started asking what had happened. Lia's dinner and bedtime milk came out. It was a mess. She started crying in shock but I managed to comfort her. I told her she'd just vomited and that there was nothing to worry about - yes, white lie.
Thinking it was due to the oily outside food (we had fried rice), I gave her water and Lia drank quite a lot of it for she was dry in her throat from the vomiting. Wrong move. It was just after midnight, think 12.30am (Friday morning) and after James changed the sheets, I patted Lia back to sleep. She woke up again like an hour later and vomited again - water this time. We changed the sheets again and this time round, we had Lia on the bed in between us. The little one vomited a third time (some foamy stuff) and it was then gastric flu came to my mind. We decided to bring her to a doctor - KKH.
The doctor had the same diagnosis and suspected gastric flu. The nurses fed Lia some medicine for her vomiting and we were told to stay and monitor Lia for the next two hours. Glucose water was to be given 1/2 hour after her medication at 15 minutes interval. If there is no further vomiting - luckily there isn't, we could go home - yes, we went home!
The doctor said diarrhea and fever could follow as it usually comes as a package and true enough, Lia's diarrhea came while we were waiting for her medications.
I was unwell and Lia was in my mother-in-law's care. She is better already, diarrhea still lingering a little but overall she's back to her usual activities. James just showed me a picture of her sweeping leaves in my mother-in-law's garden! I will put it up later!
