High fever

It all began last Saturday with an innocent dry cough, and she'd gotten her first eye infection in her life. I had brought Lia to her PD on Saturday morning and PD diagnosed her with a virus infection (originated from James, passed on to me, and now to Lia). PD said viruses went in through her nose, and it'd spread to her right eye. She was being prescribed antibiotics and eye drops and it was S$ 91.67 in damage to my pocket.

When Lia woke up from her nap that afternoon, her body felt hot against mine and I got a shock when I took her temperature; 39.5 degrees! Quickly fed her some Brufen and I sponged her as often as I could. Her temperature hovered around 38-39degrees that evening and come 10pm, I got a second shock of the day. Lia's temperature shot to a high of 40.8 degrees! James was snoozing on the couch and I quickly woke him up. We hung around Lia for a while and I decided to make a trip to KK Hospital. This was the first time ever Lia had gotten such a high temperature and we were scared stiff to delay another second. There was quite a queue usual, but we were being called in after a 10-15 minutes wait. Doc asked the questions, and gave Lia a thorough check. He suspected an early case of bronchitis as he could hear Lia wheeze a little and prescribed Salbutamol (Ventolin). High fever is expected, and it can still go up to 40 degrees and if Lia is found to be breathless or panting, we ought to bring her in again. That was quite the fastest trip to KKH for we were back home in just 2 hours, plus the journey to and fro. (We had experienced a 2 hours waiting time before)

Today's the third day and for the past two days Lia's fever hovered around the range of 39-40 degrees. We were worried, though her temperature did come down to 38 degrees+ for a while, but it would go right back to the high of 39+ and 40degrees after the effects of Brufen goes off. Lia is also not eating well. She ate just bits of scrambled eggs and ham at breakfast, refused her lunch of plain brown rice porridge with pork floss (she had started loving pork floss), refused her milk, and only ate her tidbit; teddy puffs. James decided to have Lia go back for a review, and we went in just now. Same thing, Doc asked the questions and did a thorough check on Lia. She found an ulcer at the back of Lia's throat and that could the reason for her to reject her foods-painful when swallowing. HFMD was ruled out for Lia is not attending day care and there are no other visible ulcers or rashes. The ulcer is caused by the viral infection in Lia right now. Fever is still expected over the next couple of days, can still go up to a high of 40 degrees. Continue monitoring and to keep the baby well hydrated was the advise.

One of my spree member's sons have also gotten viral infections/fevers recently. High fever of 40 degrees too. Kids' fevers are scary these days eh.
